The popular destination of Mission Beach in San Diego is home to numerous restaurants, condos and especially Belmont Park with its famous roller coasters. For lodging, visitors need to look at nearby Pacific Beach or Mission Bay, because there are not really any San Diego Beach hotels along the area specifically known as Mission Beach.

Mission Beach is on a two-mile peninsula, bounded by the Pacific Ocean to the west, Mission Bay to thesoutheast and Pacific Beach to the north. The area is filled with Spanish Revival architecture and is home to historic gardens with plants dating back to 1892, according to the website deaneades.com.

Deaneades continues that Mission Beach possesses a Tony Award winning theatre, The Globe.

Nearby attractions include Belmont Park, which is right on the beach; Sea World, which is just 12 miles or so away; and the world-famous San Diego Zoo, which is about 30 miles and 45 minutes to an hour away.

Another alternative is not to drive at all, but to saunter the boardwalk and enjoy some world-class people watching.

The San Diego beaches beckon and people answer. Where to stay is the big question.

Newcomers especially worry, while those who are returning need to be wary of going back to the same hotel if it's been several years since their last trip.
