On Saturday morning, Michael and I went to a local castle in Landstuhl – Burg Nanstein.
It was built in 1162 after Holy Roman Emperor Frederick I ordered its construction.
It was a short 10 minute drive from the house and we decided to go after we went to the gym. I ended up getting in a 4 mile run and 20 minutes on the elliptical before heading home. I have plans to run outside tomorrow and hope to break the 5 mile mark. Slowly but surely I’ll get back to increasing my mileage.
The view of the city below was nice and you can see the air base in the far distance.
It was a pretty small castle but still nice to walk around.
Gah! See those roots?! I bought hair coloring today to take care of that.
We hung out on the top for a while snapping pictures. Michael’s brother called (he is currently deployed) and he got to talk to him for a bit.
Then we found stairs going down into a basement type area. I just stood there while Michael went down and around the corner because I get a little scared of dark places. The pictures make it look like it was bright down there but it was anything but bright. There was one small light up on the wall and that was it. And there was this constant dripping noise that made it even more creepy.
I scare really easily. Whenever I watch a scary movie, I make Michael check all the closets, under all the beds, and make sure that the doors are locked before we can go to bed. So going down those stairs in a castle that is hundreds and hundreds of years old wasn’t really something I wanted to do. Michael started making “scary noises” once he reached the bottom and whispering my name in a really creepy way. It was echoing off the walls and really freaked me out! Not cool, Michael. Not cool. He does the same sort of thing late at night when it is pitch black in the bedroom just to scare me.
I finally ended up going down and taking a few pictures before hurrying out of there.
I have my eye on a bike tour in Luxembourg next month. The price includes the cost of the bus to Luxembourg, lunch, a bike, and a 4 hour bike tour that takes you to the major highlights. I think that sounds like fun exploring a city on a bike. I really hope we can go and if not, I really hope I can find someone to go with.
